Ossa Kierkegaard (b. 1976) is a Swedish contemporary artist based in Amsterdam. In her practice she questions ingrained cultural assumptions and believes about social structures and identity through painting and material exploration. After graduating cum laude from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 2004, she developed a broad, multidisciplinary foundation and gained international experience across the creative field. From 2017/18 she left the applied arts behind to focus exclusively on fine art, establishing painting on canvas as her primary medium in 2022. Since then, her work has been acquired by numerous private and corporate collections.Shaped by an unconventional and challenging upbringing, she has cultivated an independent artistic voice defined by persistence, reflection, and a commitment to questioning established narratives. Her work examines what it means to be human, engaging with themes of current affairs, history, feminism, ecology, and technology, situating personal experience within broader social and historical contexts. She describes her practice: “Painting allows me to move from observer to participant. It is a space to connect the dots and invite the viewer to join me in exploring the tension between society’s constant change and humanity’s enduring nature.”
